Gatsby, What Gatsby?

Hello Lovelies!

Apologies for the lack of blogging lately, (I seem to be saying this a lot.. sorry!) but the weather has been glorious and I'd rather be outside enjoying the warm sunshine, instead of being cooped up inside on my computer. I'm sure you can understand, especially since I'm Scottish, this lovely weather only comes once a year (if we are lucky) and so it is very important for me to enjoy it! :)

Anyways, I may have mentioned this before, but I am a massive Baz Luhrmann fan and so couldn't contain my excitement when I heard he was remaking 'The Great Gatsby'. I studied the book in school and while at first found it boring, it soon grew on me and now, I  love it. Luhrmann has released the first trailer for the movie (out in Dec 2012, why do we have to wait so long?!) and it is oozing with Luhrmann magic. Packed with glitter, dazzle and drama, it's looking like a Luhrmann classic, along with Romeo + Juliet and Moulin Rouge. If you haven't seen it, watch the trailer here.

In my opinion, the casting for this movie is perfect. There are no actors alive better suited to playing Daisy and Gatsby than Carey Mulligan and Leonardo DiCaprio, and you can see the chemistry between them in the trailer. This is the chemistry which was so lacking in the 70's adaptation with Robert Redford and Mia Farrow. We were made to watch the movie in my English class and I hated it, which could explain why I initially disliked the book. However, I know Luhrmann will not disappoint, when does he ever? (Please ignore the movie 'Australia', it was very pretty but farrr tooooo longggggg). Below are a few images which have been released. Absolutely love the 20's fashion and style, which you can see has been the inspiration for designs seen on this years catwalk at Gucci and Ralph Lauren.

Beautiful.

Then wear the gold hat, if that will move her;

If you can bounce high, bounce for her too,

Till she cry "Lover, gold-hatted, high-bouncing lover,

I must have you!"

  5. I can't wait to see it! This is my mum's favourite book so I read it as soon as I was old enough to. I agree - those two are perfect for the roles. I adore 20s fashion and can't wait to see all the clothes, but unfortunately flapper dresses and drop waits do nothing for my figure. x
